Mechanism of action

 

 

The primary mechanism of collector action involves the adsorption of agent molecules or ions at the interface between minerals and water. This process encompasses molecular adsorption, ion adsorption, semi-micelle adsorption, and the adsorption of reaction products of collectors on mineral surfaces.

Ion adsorption occurs when collector ions in the slurry adhere to the mineral surface. For instance, at pH levels above 5, xanthate adsorbs onto the surface of galena, while oleic acid collectors adhere to calcium-containing minerals such as fluorite, calcite, and scheelite ore.
